## Run the check

Work through the list from top to bottom. For each change you see the 2026 subclause, the type of change and a short explanation. Then choose “In place”, “Partly” or “Open”. Clicking the same choice again clears it. At the end you get a priority list with the next step for each item.

### Your assessment of each changed requirement

For each change, choose how far your QMS covers it today. Your answers stay in your browser; only the PDF export sends them once to our server, which does not store them.

## How to rate honestly and quickly

The check is a self-assessment. It becomes more useful the stricter you are. A proven rule of thumb: choose “In place” only if you could show an auditor a specific document or record today.

- **In place:** there is an arrangement in use and evidence of it, for example an approved procedure, minutes or an entry in the risk register.
- **Partly:** the topic is known and handled, but part of the new requirement is missing. A typical case is opportunities that appear in the risk register but are not evaluated separately.
- **Open:** there is no arrangement yet or you are unsure. Uncertainty is a good reason to look at the topic first.

Ask the people who own the processes concerned to join the assessment. Top management is best placed to judge questions on quality culture, purchasing the requirements for external providers.

## What to do with the result

1. 1

    Set priorities

Start with the open items. New requirements such as the separate treatment of opportunities in 6.1.3 usually take longer than editorial updates.

2. 2

    Assign owners and dates

Every open change needs an owner and a date well before your transition audit.

3. 3

    Update documents

Change affected documents through your normal change and approval process. The [ISO 9001:2026 topic pages](https://docxpert.io/en/guides/iso-9001-2026-transition) show for each change which evidence makes sense.

4. 4

    Check effectiveness

Plan an internal audit against the new edition and cover the changes in your next management review.

The PDF works well as the basis for a kick-off meeting or a conversation with your certification body. It does not replace a transition plan, but it makes your starting point visible.

## Limits of the check

The comparison is based on our own analysis of both editions. It is not an official ISO correlation table and does not replace the licensed text of the standard. Clause titles are shortened. Always check requirements you rely on in an audit against the original.

The check only asks about the 17 subclauses that changed in substance, were restructured or were clarified. The remaining 48 subclauses are unchanged in substance. It is still worth checking references there, because some numbers have moved, for example through the merger of 10.1 and 10.3.

## Plan the transition in docxpert

In docxpert you run ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 9001:2026 side by side. The transition area shows the same comparison as this check. It also suggests which of your documents already linked to 2015 could support a requirement of the 2026 edition. A person always decides whether a document is carried over.

For each transition step you set an owner and a due date and link documents or CAPAs. Steps that are due appear in the personal inbox. You export the status as a PDF report. Templates with the additions of the 2026 edition are in the [template library](https://docxpert.io/en/features/template-library); you check coverage with the [gap analysis](https://docxpert.io/en/features/gap-analysis).

## Frequently asked questions

Is the ISO 9001:2026 transition check free?

Yes. The check and the PDF export are free and work without signing up. We do not ask for contact details.

Are my answers stored?

Only in your browser, so you can continue later. For the PDF export the answers are sent once to our server and are not stored after the document has been created.

Why does the check only cover 17 subclauses?

Only these 17 subclauses are new, changed in substance, restructured or clarified by notes compared with 2015. The other 48 are unchanged in substance and are listed in the table for completeness.

Does the check replace a gap analysis?

No. It shows where you stand on the changes. A full gap analysis checks all requirements against your actual documents and records.

When do I have to transition to ISO 9001:2026?

Under the transition rules published by Global ACI, existing accredited certifications must transition by 30 September 2029. Your certification body may set earlier dates; the transition guide has the details.
